Who this names 11 of 22 on the roster · 53% of their five-on-five minutes details
Both columns above are searched, and a name counts on the same terms the page links it: in full always, by surname only when one man in the edition wears it. Nothing here says who ought to be named — only who was, so the weighting can be seen rather than guessed at.
Not named here: Radek Faksa, Luke Glendening, Jani Hakanpää, Joel Hanley, Thomas Harley, Joel Kiviranta, Esa Lindell, Jacob Peterson, Marián Studenic, Ryan Suter, Scott Wedgewood.
What the Quant Says
46-30-6, 98 points, 15th in the league and third in the Central. Dallas lost a seven-game first round to Calgary in overtime of the seventh.
238 goals for, 21st. 246 against, 13th. 19th in shot-attempt share at five-on-five at 49.0 per cent and 15th in chance share at 51.0. 14th at creating chances at even strength and 10th at suppressing them.
At five-on-five: 147 goals scored against 169.2 expected, and 159 conceded against 162.4. The finishing was minus-22.2, the second-worst in the league behind Los Angeles, and the goaltending 12th at plus-3.4.
That gap is the club. A team that was tenth at defending and fourteenth at creating scored twenty-two fewer goals than its own chances promised, finished 21st in goals and made the playoffs anyway.
Jason Robertson had 41 goals and 79 points in 74 games. Roope Hintz had 37 and 72. Joe Pavelski had 81 at 37, the best total of his career. Miro Heiskanen played 24:53 a night at 23. Jake Oettinger went .9144 in 48 games and .9544 across seven playoff games.
John Klingberg has gone to Anaheim and Anton Khudobin to Chicago. Alexander Radulov, Michael Raffl and Braden Holtby are off the roster.
Mason Marchment arrives from Florida with 47 points in 54 games, Colin Miller from Buffalo, and Nils Lundkvist from the Rangers.
A club that could not finish has replaced its second-highest-scoring defenceman with a 21-year-old and a 29-year-old, and bought a winger whose one good season happened on the best team in hockey.
What the Scout Says
The club is three forwards and a goaltender, and everything below them is a question.
Jason Robertson is the leading scorer, at 23, and the skating file says he is among the twenty slowest forwards the league measures. He arrives before the puck rather than after it, and the tracking has no column for that. Roope Hintz is the opposite — top twenty in the league for both speed and sprints — and he is the man who has to get there for a line whose other two members are the 7th- and 18th-slowest forwards in hockey. Joe Pavelski at 38 has spent sixteen years standing where the puck ends up.
The middle of the roster is where the eye and the record disagree least, and that is the problem. Tyler Seguin is shooting from further out than he used to and further out than his linemates. Jamie Benn is giving the other side more power plays than any Star and getting fewer than most. Denis Gurianov is the fastest forward the league measured and loses the puck four times for every time he takes one.
The blue line is a 23-year-old, a 37-year-old whose numbers are made by whoever is in front of him, a defensive specialist and a 6-7 checker, and the men behind them have 59 NHL games between them.

How they were used
2021-22 · 82 games
Measured from shift charts at five-on-five, not projected. Units are built from the strongest partnership outward and ordered by how much they were used; the percentage is the share of the first player’s five-on-five ice time spent alongside each linemate. A low number means the club never settled on a combination. Players who have gone are marked — either to another club, or off an NHL roster altogether, which covers retirement and an unsigned summer alike.
