The eye and the numbers
SightedThe two place this roster within 3 spots of one another. Every report underneath was written with these numbers on screen, so the agreement is not corroboration — the arithmetic is on both sides of it.
Both bars rank this club among the 32 in the edition. The report bar is the mean of its players' grades, weighted by the five-on-five minutes each of them played; the numbers bar is their expected-goal share on the same weighting. It counts 20 of the 22 reports on this roster — the rest have no five-on-five record long enough to weigh — and it reads the roster as it stands rather than the club's own last season.
Who the words reach 21 of 22 · 97% of the five-on-five minutes who is left out (1)
The bars above counted every man on the roster with enough ice time to weigh. The paragraphs name whoever they name, and no rule says who that should be — so this says who it was, over the write-up as a whole. Each section below reaches far fewer than this, which is the figure that matters: the section is where the selection happens, and the count sits under each one. The share is of the five-on-five minutes played by the 20 men on this roster who have a measured record.
Not named: Nikita Grebenkin.
Who this names 8 of 22 on the roster · 47% of their five-on-five minutes details
Both columns above are searched, and a name counts on the same terms the page links it: in full always, by surname only when one man in the edition wears it. Nothing here says who ought to be named — only who was, so the weighting can be seen rather than guessed at.
Not named here: Noel Acciari, Zachary Aston-Reese, Noah Cates, Sean Couturier, Jamie Drysdale, Christian Dvorak, Tyson Foerster, Nikita Grebenkin, Carl Grundstrom, David Jiricek, Owen Tippett, Dan Vladar, Joseph Woll, Cam York.
What the Quant Says
4th in the league at preventing chances and 26th at creating them. Philadelphia allowed 2.35 expected goals per 60 at even strength — behind only Vegas and Ottawa — and finished with 250 scored and 243 allowed, essentially level at both ends.
Finishing added 5.8 goals, 13th; the goaltending added 3.0, 14th. The special teams are genuinely good — 8th on the power play, 6th on the kill — which on a club that cannot generate at 5-on-5 is doing a disproportionate share of the work. Continuity is 80.4 per cent, eleventh: this is a well-coached hockey team that needs its 21-year-olds to score.
What the Scout Says
Small, skilled, defiant forwards on top of a very large and very literal blue line. Matvei Michkov has the best hands on the roster and among the more inventive in the league, and he gives away 40 pounds without adjusting for it. Trevor Zegras makes the no-look feed through a seam most forwards do not see. Denver Barkey is 171 pounds and does his shooting in the crease, which almost nobody his size attempts. Travis Konecny forechecks hard and does not avoid the interior at 5-10.
Behind them the club is built the other way entirely. Nick Seeler blocks shots at a rate that has cost him seasons; Rasmus Ristolainen hits, blocks and owns his net front; Simon Benoit clears the crease and cannot skate; Travis Sanheim is 6-4 and exits the zone with the puck. That contrast is the club's whole personality — a group of little men who will not be pushed out of the middle, protected by defencemen who make the front of their own net a bad place to stand.

How they were used
2025-26 · 82 games
Measured from shift charts at five-on-five, not projected. Units are built from the strongest partnership outward and ordered by how much they were used; the percentage is the share of the first player’s five-on-five ice time spent alongside each linemate. A low number means the club never settled on a combination. Players who have gone are marked — either to another club, or off an NHL roster altogether, which covers retirement and an unsigned summer alike.
