The Finesse Game

The skating is genuinely excellent — among the better sets of feet on any blue line — and it is why a defenceman this size plays twenty-one minutes. He escapes forechecks by turning through them and joins the rush cleanly.

Eight goals from 164 unblocked attempts at a median of 49 feet is a good conversion for a point shot. Twenty-four assists is a fair offensive return.

A hundred and two points in 295 career games.

The Physical Game

Five foot eleven and 185 pounds, and it is the whole reservation. Thirty-three penalty minutes. He cannot clear a crease and loses net-front battles routinely.

He avoids the problem with feet and anticipation, which works until a series where somebody makes it the plan.

The Intangibles

Fifty point nine per cent of the expected goals, 61st percentile, against 48 per cent of the shot attempts, 35th, across 1,416 minutes.

Five points in his last ten. He is 24, the sixth pick in 2020, and has now had two healthy seasons after a run of injuries that cost him most of two years. This is a good second-pair defenceman and probably not more.
