Noah Juulsen

Colorado Avalanche Defense #47

A former first-round pick, ten years on, playing a sheltered third pairing and doing it competently.

Last Season

One goal and ten points in 52 games, plus-three, on under fourteen minutes a night. Across 209 career games he has 27 points.

The Finesse Game

Almost none, and no pretence otherwise. Four goals in 209 games, twenty-six shots in fifty-two, and a first pass that is simple by instruction. He does not carry the puck and does not join the rush.

The Physical Game

Six-two and 201, and this is the reason he plays. He finishes checks, is willing in front of his own net, and plays with an edge — a genuinely useful seventh defenceman on a team that wants somebody heavy available.

The Intangibles

The twenty-sixth pick in 2015 and a career badly disrupted by facial injuries early on, which took years out of his development at exactly the wrong time.

At twenty-nine the projection is settled: a depth defenceman who dresses when the club wants more size and does not embarrass himself when he does.
