This Season So Far
The 2024-25 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.
Last Season
55 games in Tampa Bay, 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points, 1 on the power play, 75 penalty minutes, 12:01 a night and minus-10. He took 50.2 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five over 622 minutes, the 55th percentile, and his ice went 18-26 against an expectation of 21.81-21.68, all of it with the Lightning.
Four goals of scoring that did not arrive and four more conceded than the chances called for, on a chance share that was almost exactly even. He arrives in Los Angeles as the fourth checking forward the club added in one summer.
The Finesse Game
59 shots at a median of 17 feet with 59 per cent from inside 20, converted at 11.9 per cent against a career 13.4.
38 career assists in 227 games. He does his shooting from closer in than almost anybody on this roster and there is nothing else in the offensive game. The 24-goal season in Nashville is three seasons back and looks more like an accident every year.
The Physical Game
He hits everything at 6-2 and 221 and hits it hard, and 314 career penalty minutes in 227 games is what that produces.
He will fight anybody, takes liberties after the whistle, and is hard to move anywhere near the net. 75 penalty minutes in 55 games is a rate of nearly one and a half a game, which on a club whose penalty kill is 22nd is a real cost.
The Intangibles
Undrafted, out of Estevan, four seasons across two organisations, and 80 points in 227 games. Tampa Bay gave up a great deal to acquire him and got fourteen points.
He is 27 and the value is entirely physical. On a roster that already has Englund, Edmundson and Burroughs, the marginal return on another one of these is not obvious.

The eye and the numbers
HindsightThe two rank him within 13 points of one another. It was written for a back edition, with the seasons that followed already known. Neither the agreement nor the gap says anything about the eye, and this report is excluded from the club-level comparison for the same reason.
Both bars are percentiles among the 415 skaters in this edition with a report and enough ice time. The report bar ranks the mean of the grades above — 64 on their own scale — against every other report's mean. The numbers bar ranks his share of expected goals. A gap is a disagreement about where he belongs, not two scales talking past each other.
Usual linemates
2023-24 with TBL · 622 minutes at five-on-five

Share of his five-on-five ice time spent alongside each player, measured from shift charts. Special teams are excluded: a power-play unit is not a line.
Why the numbers land there
Five-on-five, 2023-24
- The club
- TBL took 50.5% of the expected goals as a club. His own share is 50.2% — 0.3 below the club he did it on.
- The role
- Third line, 622 minutes at five-on-five — 27th percentile in ice time.
With and without
| Teammate | Together | Him apart | Mate apart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Darren Raddysh | 58.2% | 44.7% | 51.4% |
| Luke Glendening | 41.3% | 53.8% | 35.1% |
| Michael Eyssimont | 52.4% | 48.8% | 48.4% |
58.2% together, 44.7% for him apart and 51.4% for Raddysh apart. Both were worse apart, so whatever the two of them had together was doing real work.
Expected-goal share while both were on the ice, and for each man in the minutes he played without the other. Apart is the pair subtracted from his own totals. It does not settle who was carrying whom — apart from each other, both were still playing with somebody — but it does say whether the share travelled when the pairing broke up.
