62 games, 7 goals and 20 assists for 27 points, 16 penalty minutes, 23:22 a night and plus-22. He took 52.9 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five over 1,178 minutes, the 75th percentile, and his ice went 52-39 against an expectation of 46.42-41.26.
Six goals of finishing above what the chances were worth and two fewer conceded than they called for. On a club that finished 28th at goaltending, he is the only defenceman on the roster who came out of it ahead.
The Finesse Game
152 attempts at a median of 53 feet with 69 per cent from beyond 40, converted at 6.0 per cent against a career 5.07.
186 career assists in 803 games. Seven goals is his third-best season in twelve years and the offence has never been the point. He skates the puck out of trouble rather than passing it out, and at 31 he is still one of the better skaters on the club.
The Physical Game
He is 6-2 and 196 and defends with reach and feet, closing on the puck instead of the man.
16 penalty minutes in 62 games at twenty-three and a half a night is one of the lowest rates in the league for the ice he takes. He blocks shots and kills penalties and does not hit anybody.
The Intangibles
Tenth overall in 2011 out of Karlstad, twelve seasons, 803 games and a career plus-93, all of it for one organisation.
He is 31 and missed twenty games. The second-best chance suppression in hockey is built on him and on Faber, and he has been doing it for a decade without anybody outside Minnesota noticing.
