Minnesota Wild Left Wing
One hundred and sixty goals in 278 games, at a career 16.26 per cent, on a club that creates nothing.

This Season So Far
The 2024-25 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.
Last Season
75 games, 46 goals and 50 assists for 96 points, 19 on the power play, 36 penalty minutes, 21:35 a night and plus-11. He took 55.6 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five over 1,212 minutes, the 90th percentile, and his ice went 72-56 against an expectation of 58.60-46.73.
Thirteen goals of finishing above what the chances were worth and nine more conceded than they called for. The 46 goals were ninth in the league and the 96 points eleventh, in seventy-five games, on the twenty-sixth-best chance creation in hockey.
The Finesse Game
410 attempts at a median of 26 feet with 38 per cent from inside 20, converted at 16.6 per cent against a career 16.26 across 984 shots.
170 career assists in 278 games. The shot is the best thing on this roster by a distance and the career conversion rate says it is the player rather than a run of luck. He carries the puck into the zone himself, which on a club with nobody else who does is most of how the offence starts.
The Physical Game
He is 5-10 and 202 and protects the puck by turning rather than by leaning.
36 penalty minutes in 75 games at twenty-one and a half a night is a low rate. He is not physical and he does not need to be, but he takes a beating below the goal line and keeps going back.
The Intangibles
A fifth-round pick in 2015 out of Novokuznetsk, four seasons since arriving from Russia at 23, and 330 points in 278 games.
He is 27 and has scored 40 or more three times in four seasons. Everything this club does at the offensive end runs through one man, and there is nothing behind him on the nights he does not play.

The eye and the numbers
HindsightThe two rank him within 9 points of one another. It was written for a back edition, with the seasons that followed already known. Neither the agreement nor the gap says anything about the eye, and this report is excluded from the club-level comparison for the same reason.
Both bars are percentiles among the 415 skaters in this edition with a report and enough ice time. The report bar ranks the mean of the grades above — 82 on their own scale — against every other report's mean. The numbers bar ranks his share of expected goals. A gap is a disagreement about where he belongs, not two scales talking past each other.

Share of his five-on-five ice time spent alongside each player, measured from shift charts. Special teams are excluded: a power-play unit is not a line.
Why the numbers land there
Five-on-five, 2023-24
- The club
- MIN took 51.3% of the expected goals as a club. His own share is 55.6% — 4.3 above the club he did it on.
- The role
- First line, 1,212 minutes at five-on-five — 84th percentile in ice time.
With and without
| Teammate | Together | Him apart | Mate apart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Boldy | 60.6% | 51.2% | 50.8% |
| Brock Faber | 55.4% | 55.8% | 47.5% |
| Mats Zuccarello | 52.5% | 57.7% | 52.3% |
60.6% together, 51.2% for him apart and 50.8% for Boldy apart. Both were worse apart, so whatever the two of them had together was doing real work.
Expected-goal share while both were on the ice, and for each man in the minutes he played without the other. Apart is the pair subtracted from his own totals. It does not settle who was carrying whom — apart from each other, both were still playing with somebody — but it does say whether the share travelled when the pairing broke up.
