This Season So Far

The 2025-26 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.

Last Season

17 goals and 28 assists in 79 games for 45 points, plus-17 — the second-best rating on the club — on 16:43 a night with 2 shorthanded goals.

51.9 per cent at five-on-five, the 70th percentile, which on this roster is below the median. His on-ice goals were 33-36 against an expected 37-34.

The Finesse Game

A patient, positionally exact centre whose offence comes from being in the right place rather than from creating anything. 158 shots and 17 goals at 10.8 per cent, with 37 per cent of the attempts from inside 20 feet.

28 assists is the useful half. He plays a slow, controlled game and does not turn the puck over, and the ceiling is limited by a lack of pace rather than of skill.

The Physical Game

6-1 and 196, and honest. He wins pucks below the goal line, blocks shots, and takes defensive-zone draws against real lines.

36 penalty minutes over 79 games. The durability has been excellent — four consecutive seasons above 78 games at 24.

The Intangibles

A first-round pick, two Cups before turning 24, and four seasons of being trusted with defensive responsibility on a club that has plenty of it.

With Barkov out for the season, he becomes the matchup centre by default. That is a very large step up from a third-line role and it is the single most important question about Florida’s season.

The two rank him within 14 points of one another. It was written for a back edition, with the seasons that followed already known. Neither the agreement nor the gap says anything about the eye, and this report is excluded from the club-level comparison for the same reason.

Both bars are percentiles among the 357 skaters in this edition with a report and enough ice time. The report bar ranks the mean of the grades above — 79 on their own scale — against every other report's mean. The numbers bar ranks his share of expected goals. A gap is a disagreement about where he belongs, not two scales talking past each other.

Usual linemates

2024-25 · 992 minutes at five-on-five

Share of his five-on-five ice time spent alongside each player, measured from shift charts. Special teams are excluded: a power-play unit is not a line.

Why the numbers land there

Five-on-five, 2024-25

The club
FLA took 54.0% of the expected goals as a club. His own share is 51.9% — 2.1 below the club he did it on.
The role
Second line, 992 minutes at five-on-five — 59th percentile in ice time.

Eetu Luostarinen49.8%56.6%52.7%
Jesper Boqvist49.8%53.6%48.7%
Gustav Forsling48.0%54.1%54.9%

49.8% together, 56.6% for him apart and 52.7% for Luostarinen apart. He was better away from Luostarinen, who was no worse away from him — the pairing cost him more than it cost Luostarinen.

Expected-goal share while both were on the ice, and for each man in the minutes he played without the other. Apart is the pair subtracted from his own totals. It does not settle who was carrying whom — apart from each other, both were still playing with somebody — but it does say whether the share travelled when the pairing broke up.
