Last Season
Nine goals and 10 assists in 81 games — 19 points, minus-20, at 13:48 a night with 33 penalty minutes.
The Finesse Game
The location is right and the finishing is not. Two hundred and five unblocked attempts with 46 per cent from inside twenty feet, median 23, and nine goals.
That is a lot of shots from good ice producing very little, which at 22 is the ordinary problem and at some point becomes the description. Ten assists in 81 games is the flat truth about the playmaking.
Fifty-six points in 159 career games.
The Physical Game
Six foot one, 202, and he competes hard — 33 penalty minutes, a willing forechecker, and he goes to the net, which is where the shot chart comes from.
The Intangibles
The interesting part: 51.1 per cent of the expected goals, 64th percentile — the best mark of any Detroit forward, on a club whose team figure was 48.2.
So a player with nineteen points and a minus-twenty was, by the underlying measures, the most effective forward on the roster. Both of those are true and the second one is the one that should decide how he is priced.
He is 22, the eighth pick in 2022, and three points in his last ten. The chances are arriving. Somebody has to start putting them in.
