The Finesse Game
A direct, hard-skating centre who gets to the interior and shoots from there. The hands are good rather than exceptional and the passing is functional — 18 assists — and none of the game depends on either.
What is genuinely impressive at 21 is the shot selection. Half his attempts from inside 20 feet is a mature profile and it is the reason a rookie in fifteen minutes a night scored 19.
The Physical Game
6-1 and 202, and he plays a heavy game. He forechecks with force, wins pucks below the goal line, and finishes checks — the physical maturity is well ahead of the age.
34 penalty minutes over 77 games. 77 games as a 21-year-old playing this way is a good sign.
The Intangibles
A first-round pick, two seasons in Sweden, an American League year, and a rookie season in which he was one of the club’s best possession forwards.
He is the answer to the question of who wins pucks for Lucas Raymond. The projection is a genuine second-line centre and possibly more, and he is the most encouraging development in this chapter.
