The Finesse Game
The skating is remarkable for the size — six foot six and genuinely mobile, able to carry the puck out of trouble rather than chip it. That combination is why he was a sixth overall pick.
A hundred and thirty-seven unblocked attempts from a median of 45 feet, nine goals. Sixteen assists in 72 games is a modest return and the offence is still arriving.
The Physical Game
Six foot six, 222, and he uses it properly. Seventy-five penalty minutes is a young defenceman playing on the edge, and in front of his own net he is the one Detroit sends to clear traffic.

That is the second-best mark on a club where the other four regular defencemen sit at the ninth, thirteenth, eighteenth and nineteenth percentiles. Detroit’s blue line is Seider, Edvinsson, and a long drop.
