Ten goals of scoring that never arrived on a third line that was winning its minutes.

This Season So Far
The 2024-25 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.
Last Season
All 82 games, 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points, 2 on the power play, 26 penalty minutes, 15:56 a night and plus-1. He took 54.0 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five over 1,034 minutes, the 82nd percentile, and his ice went 31-35 against an expectation of 40.90-34.79.
Ten goals of scoring that never arrived, the largest such shortfall of anybody still on the roster. The 82nd percentile and the plus-1 do not belong to the same season and the first one is the truer number.
The Finesse Game
119 shots at a median of 22 feet with 47 per cent from inside 20, converted at 10.1 per cent against a career 10.9.
64 career assists in 294 games. He is 6-3 and gets to the interior, and the finishing has never been there. Twelve goals on 119 shots from that distance is roughly what should have happened; the goals on his ice that did not arrive were mostly somebody else’s.
The Physical Game
He is 6-3 and 191 and forechecks hard, and he wins the wall against defencemen who outweigh him.
26 penalty minutes in 82 games at sixteen minutes a night is a low rate. He finishes checks without hunting them and he does not retaliate.
The Intangibles
A second-round pick in 2017 out of Siilinjarvi, five seasons, and 105 points in 294 games. He kills penalties and has 2 career shorthanded goals.
He played all 82 games and every one of them mattered to the shape of a Cup-winning club without ever showing up on a scoresheet. That is a real player and an unglamorous one.

The eye and the numbers
HindsightThe numbers rank him 25 points above where the report does. It was written for a back edition, with the seasons that followed already known. Neither the agreement nor the gap says anything about the eye, and this report is excluded from the club-level comparison for the same reason. Why the numbers land there sets out the club he did it on, the minutes he played and the men he played them with.
Both bars are percentiles among the 415 skaters in this edition with a report and enough ice time. The report bar ranks the mean of the grades above — 67 on their own scale — against every other report's mean. The numbers bar ranks his share of expected goals. A gap is a disagreement about where he belongs, not two scales talking past each other.
Usual linemates
2023-24 · 1034 minutes at five-on-five
Share of his five-on-five ice time spent alongside each player, measured from shift charts. Special teams are excluded: a power-play unit is not a line.
Why the numbers land there
Five-on-five, 2023-24
- The club
- FLA took 53.7% of the expected goals as a club. His own share is 54.0% — 0.3 above the club he did it on.
- The role
- Third line, 1,034 minutes at five-on-five — 63rd percentile in ice time.
With and without
| Teammate | Together | Him apart | Mate apart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anton Lundell | 55.5% | 50.7% | 47.9% |
| Gustav Forsling | 49.4% | 56.1% | 57.9% |
| Niko Mikkola | 54.4% | 53.8% | 50.9% |
55.5% together, 50.7% for him apart and 47.9% for Lundell apart. Both were worse apart, so whatever the two of them had together was doing real work.
Expected-goal share while both were on the ice, and for each man in the minutes he played without the other. Apart is the pair subtracted from his own totals. It does not settle who was carrying whom — apart from each other, both were still playing with somebody — but it does say whether the share travelled when the pairing broke up.
Where he shoots from
goal on goal missed
172 unblocked shots in 2023-24, 11 of them goals. His median goal came from 9 feet. 47% of his shots came from inside twenty feet, 17% from beyond forty.
