The Finesse Game

Six power-play goals at eleven minutes a night is the specific job: he stands in front, he screens, he tips, and he collects what comes off the goaltender.
The Physical Game

He does not skate any more in any sense the feed can detect. What he does instead is stand somewhere unpleasant and refuse to leave: he lives in the blue paint and makes the goaltender’s night miserable, and the 95 minutes are the record of how he is treated for it and how he answers.

The Intangibles
Twenty-eighth overall by Anaheim in 2003, a Stanley Cup in 2007, a Hart Trophy and a fifty-goal season in 2011, and then a second career as the most useful fourth-line agitator in hockey.
He reached the Stanley Cup final in three consecutive seasons with three different clubs — Dallas, Montreal and Tampa Bay — which is a fact about what clubs think he is worth in a playoff series.
Chicago is signing a 38-year-old onto a rebuild, and the reason is not the twelve goals.
