20 goals and 28 assists in 72 games for 48 points, minus-8, on 17:07 a night, with 10 of the goals on the power play — half his total.
53.9 per cent at five-on-five, the 86th percentile, which on this club is a below-average share. His on-ice goals were 39-40 against an expected 45-38, so some of the shortfall is bad luck and the underlying number is still the lowest of any top-six forward here.
The Finesse Game
The tools are enormous. He has a heavy release, genuine hands in traffic, and the size to protect a puck against anybody — 40 per cent of his attempts came from inside 20 feet, so he goes to the right places.
11.1 per cent conversion is below what a shooter of this quality should manage, and 10 of 20 goals coming on the power play is the number that defines the season: at five-on-five he was a 10-goal winger on the best possession team in hockey.
The Physical Game
6-3 and 200, and among the more physically involved skill forwards in the league. He hits, he wins pucks below the goal line, and he plays with an edge.
59 penalty minutes is a high total and some of it is not useful. The bigger question is the knee: he tore a ligament in 2023 and the explosiveness has not fully returned.
The Intangibles
The 2nd overall pick, seven NHL seasons, and one 30-goal year. He has been good and never quite what the draft position or the tools suggest.
At 25 with a long contract, this is the point where the club has to decide whether the knee is the explanation or whether this is the player. The power-play dependence is the worrying part, because it is the phase least likely to survive a change of personnel.
