21 goals and 34 assists in 77 games for 55 points, even, on 18:51 a night and 188 shots — the leading scorer on the roster.
48.6 per cent at five-on-five, the 37th percentile, which is the best share of any forward here. His on-ice goals were 32-40 against an expected 49-51, which is a line that was outscored despite creating as much as it allowed.
The Finesse Game
The skill is the passing. He holds pucks on the wall longer than his size should allow and finds a seam that is not obviously there, and 34 assists on a club that scored 206 goals is a real total.
The shot is good and streaky. 11.2 per cent is close to his career rate, 34 per cent of his attempts come from inside 20, and the puck skills in tight are the best on the roster. What has never developed is a rush game — he is a player who arrives with the puck already in the zone.
The Physical Game
6 feet and 193, and he is not physical. He avoids the wall, does not forecheck heavily, and gives up possession rather than absorbing a hit to keep it.
20 penalty minutes across a full season. The body has held up — four consecutive seasons above 70 games — which for a skill player of this size is worth something.
The Intangibles
Seven seasons in one organisation, all of them losing ones, and he has been the club’s leading scorer in most of them without ever being spoken of as a franchise player.
At 28 that is now the profile: a genuine top-six winger who cannot carry a line by himself, on a contract that is fair and will look poor if the club is still losing when it expires. He is the sort of player a rebuilding team trades in February.
