24 goals and 55 assists in 82 games — 79 points at 19:49 a night, even on the year, with 46 penalty minutes.
53.3 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five, the 81st percentile. And his ice was outscored 28-40 against an expectation of 46.89-41.05. Nineteen goals of scoring simply did not arrive, which is the single largest gap on any forward here and is not a thing a player controls.
The Finesse Game
The skating is the best on the club and among the better first steps in the league. He gains the line under control at speed, he does not have to slow down to make a play, and he beats a defenceman wide as a matter of routine.
162 shots at a median of 24 feet with 40 per cent from inside 20 — he goes to the middle. 55 assists says the instinct is still to pass, and the shot is good enough that it should not be. Two seasons before last he scored 39 goals; he has not been near that since.
The Physical Game
6-0 and 187 and neither heavy nor soft. He takes contact to hold onto the puck and he does not seek it out, which at his speed is the correct trade.
46 penalty minutes in a full season is a man who is not fouling to survive. He is not going to win a puck on the wall against a defenceman and the club has never asked him to.
The Intangibles
Third overall in 2020, 367 games, 326 points, and signed long. He is 23 and has been the best forward on this roster since he was 20.
The record is a minus-65 and a first playoff series, lost in six. The numbers underneath the last one say he was badly served by them.
