Twenty-four minutes a night is the heaviest workload on the club and 49 points is a career high. 53 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five over 1,424 minutes, the 74th percentile; his ice went 68-58 against an expectation of 65.29-57.94, which is close to the chances at both ends.
The Finesse Game
159 attempts at a median of 47 feet, 66 per cent from beyond 40, converting at 6.92 per cent off a shot measured at 97.0 mph — the 88th percentile.
Eleven goals from 47 feet is a much better return than most of the hard-shooting defencemen in this book manage, and the reason is that he shoots to be tipped rather than to score: 12 per cent of his attempts come from inside 20 and the rest are aimed at a stick.

The Physical Game
6-1 and 202, and 172 penalty minutes in 377 games is moderate — he defends with position and an active stick rather than by hurting people.
3.57 miles a game is the 98th percentile in the league on a top speed at the 50th, which is the same shape seen on Dahlin and Power in Buffalo: a defenceman who is always moving and is not fast. On twenty-four minutes a night that distance is partly the workload, and it is still an enormous amount of skating.
The Intangibles
Fifty-third overall in 2015, a second-round pick who has become a genuine number-one defenceman — 377 games and 161 points.
He is 26. Calgary has four defencemen on expiring or near-expiring deals and a club that just missed the playoffs with elite underlying numbers, which is the worst possible position to be in: too good to sell, not good enough to buy, and a blue line that could be gone in eighteen months.
