The Finesse Game
The skating for 6-5 and 230 pounds is genuinely remarkable — he is among the faster forwards in the league in a straight line and he does not lose the puck doing it. That combination is the whole reason he was a 2nd overall pick.
The hands are good rather than exceptional and the decision-making at speed is still developing. 31 assists is a fair total. What has not yet arrived is the ability to dominate a shift; he creates chances by carrying the puck into space rather than by making anything happen once he is there.
The Physical Game
6-5 and 230, and he has learned to use it. He protects the puck below the goal line, wins the wall, and goes to the net front — none of which he did reliably two seasons ago.
46 penalty minutes over 81 games. Three consecutive seasons above 78 games at this size is a good sign.
The Intangibles
The 2nd overall pick in 2020, a slow start that produced years of criticism, and two seasons now of steady, unspectacular improvement.
At 23 the projection is a genuine first-line winger or a second-line centre, and the club has not yet decided which. The 95th-percentile chance share says the underlying game is already there; the 54 points say the finishing is not.
