Seventeen minutes a night at 23 is a genuine opportunity and he did not take it. That is the honest reading, and the softer one is that no forward on this roster was going to look good.
The Physical Game

2.94 miles a game at the 77th percentile is the one number that flatters him — he works. 22.2 mph at the 45th and 1.4 bursts at the 71st are ordinary.
The Intangibles
A fourth-round pick at 120th overall in 2018, Swiss, and 191 NHL games by 23.
He is a useful case for how much of a bad season belongs to the player. His expected-goal share was the 7th percentile and his zone starts were the 11th; those two facts are the same fact. What the data cannot say is whether a 23-year-old given sheltered minutes on a good club looks like a different player, and Chicago is not going to be a good club for a while.
