48 assists in 66 games is the better half. He plays a slow, exact game: he holds the puck below the goal line until the defence loses its shape, and the pass arrives at the moment a teammate becomes open rather than before it.
The Physical Game
6-3 and 210 and he wins pucks by taking them rather than by hitting anybody. He is among the very best stick-checkers in the league and has been for a decade — the takeaway numbers have led the league repeatedly, and it comes from reading the play rather than from speed.
14 penalty minutes in 66 games. He does not foul, he does not retaliate, and the physical game is entirely about possession.
