21-8-3 in 34 games with a .9257, a 2.14 average and 4 shutouts, facing 955 shots. It is the best save percentage of any goaltender on this roster and among the best in the league.
The club’s goaltending came in 15.2 goals better than the chances faced, 6th in the league, and he did most of it. He missed time to injury twice and was concussed in the second round of the playoffs.
The Physical Game
6-6 and 248 pounds — the largest goaltender in this edition — and he plays deep and enormous. He sets at the top of the crease and the frame takes almost the entire net away without him moving for it.
The rebound control is good for a goaltender built this way, which is the thing that usually goes wrong at that size. The lateral recovery is the cost — a second chance from the far post is a long way for him — and the glove is better than the style requires. He does not handle the puck especially well.
The Mental Game
He has been a backup for eight seasons on four clubs and has a career .9173 across 142 games, which is a better number than most starters carry.
The record is that he has never played more than 34 games in a season and has been hurt in almost every one of them. Nobody knows what he is across sixty starts and he is 31.
The Intangibles
A second-round pick in 2012 and 142 NHL games with a career .9173, across Philadelphia, Edmonton, Florida and Toronto — and a Stanley Cup ring from Florida in 2024.
He is 31 and signed a four-year extension in 2025. On a club that lost a second-round series in seven games with him concussed for the last two of them, that contract is not a small bet.
