All 82 games at 34, 21 goals and 39 assists for 60 points, 7 on the power play and 1 shorthanded, 15:07 a night and plus-8. He converted 12.80 per cent of 164 shots against a career 13.18 across 2,905.

He took 55.2 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five over 930 minutes, the 89th percentile, and his ice went 42-38 against an expectation of 46.10-37.42. Sixty points at fifteen minutes a night in a fifteenth season is a remarkable piece of ageing.

The Finesse Game

He shoots from a median of 20 feet with 50 per cent of his attempts from inside 20 — the shortest median distance of any regular forward on the roster except Wyatt Johnston. At 35 he still goes to the front of the net and takes what a 35-year-old takes.

Five hundred and twenty-four career assists in 1,112 games. The passing has outlasted everything else: he holds the puck below the goal line, waits, and finds the seam, and 39 assists last season is the same number he had at 30.

The skating went first and it went years ago. Everything he does now happens within twenty feet of a net for that reason.

The Physical Game

Eight hundred and nine penalty minutes in 1,112 games is the record of a captain who has fought for his club for fifteen seasons and has never once been talked out of it.
