48.9 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five, the 39th percentile — the worst mark on this blue line. His ice went 49-42 against an expectation of 51.35-53.70 — two goals of scoring missing and twelve fewer conceded, which is the crease.
The Finesse Game
179 attempts at a median of 49 feet with 68 per cent from beyond 40, converting at 11.2 per cent for 20 goals. That conversion rate from that distance is exceptional and it is the reason he is on a first power-play unit: the shot is genuinely heavy and he gets it through.
27 assists. He carries the puck out of his own zone rather than passing it out and the skating is high-end for the size.
The Physical Game
6-2 and 215 and he plays a reasonably hard game without being a punishing one. He finishes checks and he clears his crease adequately.
52 penalty minutes in 74 games is a moderate-to-high rate, and a share of it is the stick foul after being beaten to the outside — which is also what the 39th percentile of chances is describing.
The Intangibles
Sixteenth overall in 2016 and 541 games and 263 points across three organisations, with a career minus-52 accumulated almost entirely in Arizona and Ottawa.
