4 goals and 13 assists in 30 games for 17 points, plus-9, on 24:08 a night — the heaviest per-game workload on the club.
He broke his ankle in the last preseason game and returned in January. 49.4 per cent at five-on-five, the 44th percentile, over 565 minutes, with on-ice goals of 14-14 against an expected 21-22.
The Finesse Game
The reading and the passing are still very good. He sees the outlet before the forecheck arrives, and 13 assists in 30 games is a first-pair rate.
46 shots in 30 games with 82 per cent from beyond 40 feet, and the release has never been a weapon. The offence is distribution and it always has been.
The Physical Game
6-1 and 210, and he still finishes checks and defends the front of his net. He plays with an edge that has not softened at all.
20 penalty minutes over 30 games is a high rate. The skating has thinned and the recovery is what the ankle took longest to return; at 35 that is the thing to watch.
The Intangibles
Eighteen seasons, one organisation, two Cups, a Norris, and a captaincy in everything but title.
At 36 the projection is 60 games and 20 minutes. The club has now been eliminated in the first round in four consecutive seasons, all of them by Edmonton, and he has been the constant through every version of it.
