He broke his ankle in the last preseason game and returned in January. 50.4 per cent at five-on-five, the 57th percentile, over 565 minutes, with on-ice goals of 22-16 against an expected 22-21.

The Finesse Game

The reading and the passing are still very good. He sees the outlet before the forecheck arrives, and 13 assists in 30 games is a first-pair rate.

46 shots in 30 games with 82 per cent from beyond 40 feet, and the release has never been a weapon. The offence is distribution and it always has been.

The Physical Game

20 penalty minutes over 30 games is a high rate. The skating has thinned and the recovery is what the ankle took longest to return; at 35 that is the thing to watch.
