Eleven goals of scoring that did not arrive on his ice — the largest shortfall on the club — and three more conceded than the chances called for. An even chance share that produced a minus-24, which is as unlucky as this edition gets.
The Finesse Game
217 attempts at a median of 21 feet with 49 per cent from inside 20, 154 of them on goal, converted at 10.4 per cent against a career 9.72.
208 career assists in 752 games. Everything he has ever scored has come from inside the dots and most of it from inside the crease. Sixteen goals at 31 on thirteen minutes a night is more than the contract is producing but not nothing.
The Physical Game
He is 5-9 and 185 and stands in the blue paint against defencemen fifty pounds heavier, which is the whole of his career.
516 career penalty minutes in 752 games is a real rate for a man this size. He takes liberties, retaliates, agitates, and has been hit more often than almost anybody of his generation.
The Intangibles
A fifth-round pick in 2010 out of Edmonton, twelve seasons and 752 games, all of it for one organisation. He has 218 goals from the front of the net at 5-9.
He is 32 and the body has taken a decade of it. The minus-24 is a lie about last season and the thirty-goal seasons are not coming back either.
