What he provides is a centre who does not lose the puck in his own end, takes a hard draw, and can be put out to defend a lead. That is a third-line job and it is done properly.

6-1 and 200, and he plays a hard checking game. He finishes checks, blocks shots, and is reliable on the wall.
8 penalty minutes in 56 games is exceptional discipline. The body is the issue — he has cleared 70 games once in four seasons here.
The Intangibles
A fourth-round pick, an established checking centre, and a free-agent contract signed on the strength of a deadline-run season that has never been repeated.
At 31 the projection is a third-line centre for 60 games. The plus-4 is the most interesting thing about the season and it is a small-sample curiosity rather than a finding.
