All 82 games, 15 goals and 18 assists, minus-two. Sixteen and a half minutes a night in a middle-six role, at 36 years old. It was his 1,032nd career game.

The Finesse Game

The foot speed went some time ago and he has replaced it with knowing where to stand. He gets to the inside — 46 per cent of his unblocked attempts came from within twenty feet, median 21 — because he starts moving before the puck does.

The hands are still fine in tight. Fifteen goals is a fair return for a player taking 148 shots and playing away from the top power-play unit.

The Physical Game

Six foot one, 205, and he still finishes his checks and still goes to the net front on the power play, which is where three of his goals came from. Forty penalty minutes is a veteran taking the ones that need taking.

He cannot chase a young winger down the wall any more. On a team as fast as this one is becoming, that will be increasingly visible.

The Intangibles

Two Stanley Cups in Tampa and a reputation as one of the more respected men in the room, which is presumably why Anaheim keeps giving him minutes on a rebuilding roster.

The numbers say he is earning them: 52.3 per cent of the expected goals, 73rd percentile, and the goals went 46-37 in his favour at five-on-five — the second-best mark on the club. Four goals in his last ten games. He is 37 in September and there is no sign yet of the cliff.
