Anaheim Ducks Right Wing #45
Sixty points as a nineteen-year-old rookie, and a minus-twelve that says less than it looks.

Last Season
All 82 games, 23 goals and 37 assists, minus-12. Seventeen and a half minutes a night. Rookies who play every game and finish with 60 points are rare, and most of them are not still teenagers when the season starts.
The Finesse Game
Six foot three with hands that belong on a smaller player. He is a passer first — 37 assists — and the good ones are the ones made under pressure, off the wall, to a man he could not have been looking at.
His own shot selection is better than most rookies manage: 47 per cent of his unblocked attempts came from inside twenty feet, and the median was 21 feet out. He goes to the net rather than settling for the outside, which at his age is a habit worth more than the 23 goals it produced.
The Physical Game
Two hundred and six pounds on a long frame, and the frame is ahead of the strength. He gets separated from pucks by men who have been in the league five years, and 62 penalty minutes is mostly the frustration of losing those battles rather than winning them.
This is the ordinary problem of a young big man and the ordinary solution is two summers.
The Intangibles
Third overall in 2024 and a surprise at the time. The minus-12 is the number people will quote and it is the least useful one on his page: the goals went 49-52 against while he was out there but the expected goals went 59.2 to 55.8 for, so he was outscored while outplaying people. That gap is goaltending, and it was not his.
Fifty-one and a half per cent of the expected goals in a rookie season, on a team that could not keep the puck out. Ask again in a hundred games, but there is nothing here that looks like a fluke.
