The Finesse Game
The skating is still genuinely good — it is why he was a first-round pick and it has not gone anywhere. 9.09 per cent on 44 attempts is perfectly fine for the role.
What never arrived is the offensive production the draft position implied. He does not hold the puck under pressure long enough to make a play with it, and the decisions come at the pace of a checking forward rather than a scoring one. That is now settled rather than developing.

33 penalty minutes in 39 games at ten minutes a night is a high rate and the wrong kind of number for a fourth-line player on a club that spent 4:51 a game killing penalties.
The Intangibles
