The Finesse Game
None to speak of and none required. 17 points is his ninth season in that neighbourhood, and there has never been an indication that another gear exists.
He wins a draw, gets the puck deep, and forechecks. That is the game and it has been reliable for a decade.
The Physical Game
6-2 and 208, and he plays a heavy, straight-line forechecking game. He finishes checks, blocks shots, and is difficult below the goal line.
40 penalty minutes over 82 games is a fair rate for the style. The durability is exceptional — five straight seasons above 75 games in a role built on contact.
The Intangibles
Five seasons here, four in Columbus, and a return at 32 to a club that has lost most of the men he won with. He is the sort of signing a rebuilding team makes to give its 21-year-olds somebody to watch.
The projection is a fourth-line centre for two more years. It is not a use of a roster spot that a club chasing a playoff place would make, and Boston is not one.
