This Season So Far

The 2025-26 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.

Last Season

27 goals and 46 assists in 82 games for 73 points, plus-1, on 20:17 a night with 10 game-winners and 271 shots — the most on the roster by 113.

53.7 per cent at five-on-five, the 84th percentile — the best figure among the club’s forwards who played a full season. 10 per cent conversion on that volume is low and it kept the club in games all year.

The Finesse Game

A big winger with genuine skill who has learned to shoot rather than wait. 271 attempts is a top-fifteen volume in the league and the release is quick and heavy off the pass.

46 assists is the more impressive half on a club that scored 214 goals. He holds the puck on the wall, delays, and finds the seam — and with Kaprizov out for half the season he was the only man on the roster who could create anything by himself.

The Physical Game

6-2 and 201, and he uses it. He protects the puck below the goal line, goes to the net front, and takes contact to make a play.

51 penalty minutes over 82 games is a moderate rate. The durability is excellent — three consecutive full seasons.

The Intangibles

A first-round pick who has improved in each of four NHL seasons and signed a long contract before the price rose.

At 24 the projection is 80 points beside a healthy Kaprizov. He carried this club through the half-season without him, which is the most useful thing this chapter can record.

The two rank him within 6 points of one another. It was written for a back edition, with the seasons that followed already known. Neither the agreement nor the gap says anything about the eye, and this report is excluded from the club-level comparison for the same reason.

Both bars are percentiles among the 357 skaters in this edition with a report and enough ice time. The report bar ranks the mean of the grades above — 81 on their own scale — against every other report's mean. The numbers bar ranks his share of expected goals. A gap is a disagreement about where he belongs, not two scales talking past each other.

Usual linemates

2024-25 · 1214 minutes at five-on-five

Share of his five-on-five ice time spent alongside each player, measured from shift charts. Special teams are excluded: a power-play unit is not a line.

Why the numbers land there

Five-on-five, 2024-25

The club
MIN took 49.1% of the expected goals as a club. His own share is 53.7% — 4.6 above the club he did it on.

Marco Rossi52.3%55.0%51.3%
Brock Faber51.1%55.9%44.2%
Jake Middleton49.6%56.3%45.5%

52.3% together, 55.0% for him apart and 51.3% for Rossi apart. Splitting them up moved neither man. Whatever is driving the share, it is not this pairing.

Expected-goal share while both were on the ice, and for each man in the minutes he played without the other. Apart is the pair subtracted from his own totals. It does not settle who was carrying whom — apart from each other, both were still playing with somebody — but it does say whether the share travelled when the pairing broke up.
