This Season So Far

The 2025-26 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.

Last Season

19 goals and 17 assists in 72 games for 36 points, plus-20, on 12:48 a night with St. Louis, including 7 on the power play.

15.8 per cent shooting on 120 attempts in under thirteen minutes a night. 19 goals from a bottom-six role is a genuinely good rookie-level return, and the plus-20 came on a club that was fighting for a playoff place.

The Finesse Game

A shooter with a quick release and a willingness to use it. 120 shots in thirteen minutes a night is a high rate and the conversion is above what most rookies manage.

17 assists is functional. He is a finisher who arrives rather than a creator, and the puck skills at NHL pace are good rather than exceptional.

The Physical Game

6 feet and 187, and honest. He goes to the net, takes contact, and forechecks with reasonable intent without being punishing.

37 penalty minutes over 72 games is a moderate rate for a young forward.

The Intangibles

A first-round pick, a dominant junior scorer, and a trade at 22 for a defenceman the club had drafted and developed.

Montreal needed a right-handed scoring winger who is not 5-8, and bought one with term remaining. The projection is a 25-goal middle-six forward and the price was a defenceman it could not fit on the roster.

The two rank him within 6 points of one another. It was written for a back edition, with the seasons that followed already known. Neither the agreement nor the gap says anything about the eye, and this report is excluded from the club-level comparison for the same reason.

Both bars are percentiles among the 357 skaters in this edition with a report and enough ice time. The report bar ranks the mean of the grades above — 76 on their own scale — against every other report's mean. The numbers bar ranks his share of expected goals. A gap is a disagreement about where he belongs, not two scales talking past each other.

  • Oskar Sundqvist54%

Why the numbers land there

Five-on-five, 2024-25

The club
STL took 51.1% of the expected goals as a club. His own share is 52.7% — 1.6 above the club he did it on.

Oskar Sundqvist53.3%52.0%50.1%
Ryan Suter51.1%53.8%47.3%
Justin Faulk46.9%55.6%48.1%

53.3% together, 52.0% for him apart and 50.1% for Sundqvist apart. Sundqvist was worse away from him while his own share held — the pairing was doing more for Sundqvist than for him.

Expected-goal share while both were on the ice, and for each man in the minutes he played without the other. Apart is the pair subtracted from his own totals. It does not settle who was carrying whom — apart from each other, both were still playing with somebody — but it does say whether the share travelled when the pairing broke up.
