53.2 per cent at five-on-five, the 80th percentile. 194 shots in fifteen minutes a night is a very high volume for a player of this size, and 7.2 per cent conversion is low — the goals should come.
The Finesse Game
A small forward who plays entirely inside. 37 per cent of his attempts came from inside 20 feet, and the volume says he is getting to shooting positions rather than circling the perimeter waiting for a play.
The hands are quick and the passing out of the corners is genuinely good. What he does not have is a release that beats a goaltender from distance, so everything depends on continuing to get to the interior — which at 165 pounds is the whole question of his career.
The Physical Game
5-8 and 165, one of the smallest forwards in the league, and he forechecks and goes into corners as though he is not. He wins more pucks than he should and he does not get discouraged.
18 penalty minutes over 78 games. The concern is simple attrition: a man this size taking this much contact will have seasons ended for him.
The Intangibles
Traded at 22 as the main return for one of the best wingers in hockey, which is an enormous thing to be asked to carry, and there was no visible drop after it.
He fits this club exactly — a forechecking, interior, high-volume forward on a team built around winning pucks back. The projection is a 25-goal second-line winger. The risk is 165 pounds over a fifteen-year career.
