He took 49.7 per cent of the expected goals at five-on-five over 1,590 minutes — the sixth-most in this edition — and his ice went 78-71 against an expectation of 71.94-72.91.

Six goals of finishing above what the chances were worth and two more stopped than the shots called for. The 49.7 per cent is the only figure below half among the club’s three big-minute defencemen, and 24:41 is the most ice of anybody in Pittsburgh.

The Finesse Game

576 career assists, third among defencemen in this edition behind Erik Karlsson and Brent Burns. He carries the puck out rather than passing it out, and at 37 he still takes the first stride away from a forechecker faster than most defencemen take their third. Zero power-play goals in 82 games, against 52 in his career, is the strangest line on this roster.
