50.4 per cent at five-on-five, the 56th percentile, with on-ice goals of 41-41 against an expected 50-49. The plus-29 came largely on special teams and in situations the five-on-five numbers do not capture, and the underlying play was average.
The Finesse Game
A 6-3 winger with genuine skill and a heavy, quick release. 15 per cent shooting on 207 attempts is a fair rate for the locations — 28 per cent of them from inside 20 feet — and he has now scored 21, 31 and 31 in his three NHL seasons.
The playmaking arrived last season and it is the reason 74 points is more interesting than 31 goals. 43 assists is a large jump and it came from him learning to hold the puck on the wall rather than shooting the first look.
The Physical Game
6-3 and 201, and he uses the size to protect pucks rather than to win them. He is not a forechecker and does not go into corners looking for contact, and he is difficult to knock off possession once he has it.

A second-round pick who spent four years in Russia before coming over at 22 and has improved in every season since.
