He was drafted eighth overall as a goal-scorer and the shot is currently below average, which is the central tension in his file. 39 points in 77 career games says the production is fine; the question is whether the finishing arrives, because 52 goals in his draft year of junior was the reason he went that high.

The skating is fine rather than special at 22.4 mph, the 56th percentile. He is not fast enough or heavy enough yet to make room for himself, which on a fourth line is survivable and in a top six is not.

He is 22. Buffalo has an unusual problem for a bad club: too many good young forwards and not enough ice, and Quinn is the one most likely to be squeezed — which is exactly when a club that has drafted this well starts trading from strength.
