Last Season
Twelve goals and 30 points in 78 games, minus-six, on thirteen and a half minutes a night with three power-play goals. Across 175 career games he has 75 points, which is a fair middle-six rate for a twenty-two-year-old.
The Finesse Game
The shot is the best part of him — a quick, accurate release that he gets away in traffic, and the reason he scored twenty-plus in his first full season elsewhere. He shoots from the slot and the tops of the circles and converts at a decent rate.
He is not a playmaker and he is not a puck-carrier. The offence comes from finding space and being ready, which works when he is playing beside someone who draws attention and produces very little when he is not.
The skating is good without being a separator.
The Physical Game
Six feet and 187, and he plays an honest but light game. He goes to the net, takes the punishment, and does not win many battles on the wall against defencemen.
The Intangibles
The seventeenth pick in 2021, traded once already, which at twenty-two is more a comment on his old club’s roster than on him.
He needs a defined spot beside a creator. On a team with a hundred-point centre and two young stars, that spot exists — and there are four other forwards competing for it.
