Five hundred and sixty-five games, and a career year that landed on the worst possible team.

Last Season

Fifteen goals and 15 assists in all 82 games — 30 points, minus-16, at 14:44 a night.

The Finesse Game

A decent shot used from decent ice: 211 unblocked attempts, 42 per cent from inside twenty feet, median 24, and sixteen goals. That is a fair middle-six return.

A hundred and twenty-three goals in 565 career games across five organisations. He is what he is, and what he is has value on a team with more around him.

The Physical Game

Six foot even, 190, and willing without being heavy. Forty-six penalty minutes is more than his game suggests and reflects a season of frustration as much as anything.

The Intangibles

Forty-four point seven per cent of the expected goals, 13th percentile — which on this roster made him one of the three best forwards, because the club was 43.2 per cent.

The goals while he was on the ice went 44-45, essentially level, against expected goals of 38.1 to 47.0. He was one of the few Blackhawks who came out ahead of what the chances predicted.

He is 30. Three points in his last ten. On any club in the top half of this book he is a useful third-line winger; here he was a top-six forward, which is the whole problem stated in one player.
