Last Season
Thirty-seven goals and 27 assists in all 82 games — 64 points, minus-three, at 17:36 a night. Twenty of the goals came on the power play, which is one of the highest shares in the league. His five-on-five work was done in Vegas.
The Finesse Game
A pure shooter. Three hundred and thirty-eight unblocked attempts, 39 goals, median 25 feet with 39 per cent from inside twenty — good ice, high volume, and a release quick enough to punish a half-second of space.
Twenty-seven assists is fair without being the point.
Ninety-two goals in 231 career games is a genuine top-six scoring rate, and he took a long time to get here.
The Physical Game
Six foot one, 194, and he does not seek contact. Twenty-four penalty minutes in a full season.
He finds the quiet ice rather than fighting for the loud ice, which works beautifully on a power play and less well when a series tightens.
The Intangibles
Fifty-four point nine per cent of the expected goals, 88th percentile, and 55 per cent of the shot attempts, 91st, across 1,123 minutes on a very good Vegas club.
The Vegas caveat applies — that was a strong possession team — but the chances ran 46.1 to 37.8 in his favour, which is more than system.
He is 25 and arrives on a club that finished 29th in even-strength expected goals for and seventh on the power play. Twenty power-play goals is exactly what this roster was short of, and it is also the most fragile way to score thirty-seven.
