This Season So Far
The 2025-26 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.
Last Season
15 goals and 16 assists in 72 games for 31 points, minus-4, on 13:19 a night with 5 game-winners.
55.8 per cent at five-on-five, the 93rd percentile, in a bottom-six role on a Cup winner. 129 shots in thirteen minutes a night is a good volume and 11.6 per cent conversion is a fair rookie rate.
The Finesse Game
A shooter with genuine hands. He gets the puck off quickly, he can beat a defenceman one-on-one at moderate speed, and 15 goals in a fourth-line role is a real return.
35 per cent of his attempts came from inside 20 feet. The playmaking is functional rather than dangerous and the decisions at NHL pace are still a half-beat slow, which is the ordinary rookie problem.
The Physical Game
5-11 and 180, and light. He does not win pucks on the wall and is separated from possession by NHL defencemen, which is why the ice time has stayed where it is.
12 penalty minutes over 72 games. The strength is the next step.
The Intangibles
A first-round pick, a rookie season on a Stanley Cup winner, and the only forward under 24 on the roster.
With Barkov out and the club needing scoring from somewhere, this is the season he gets a genuine chance. The projection is a 20-goal middle-six winger.

The eye and the numbers
HindsightThe numbers rank him 40 points above where the report does. It was written for a back edition, with the seasons that followed already known. Neither the agreement nor the gap says anything about the eye, and this report is excluded from the club-level comparison for the same reason. Why the numbers land there sets out the club he did it on, the minutes he played and the men he played them with.
Both bars are percentiles among the 357 skaters in this edition with a report and enough ice time. The report bar ranks the mean of the grades above — 73 on their own scale — against every other report's mean. The numbers bar ranks his share of expected goals. A gap is a disagreement about where he belongs, not two scales talking past each other.

Why the numbers land there
Five-on-five, 2024-25
- The club
- FLA took 54.0% of the expected goals as a club. His own share is 55.8% — 1.8 above the club he did it on.
- The role
- 778 minutes at five-on-five — 34th percentile in ice time.
With and without
| Teammate | Together | Him apart | Mate apart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Bennett | 55.7% | 55.9% | 52.3% |
| Niko Mikkola | 57.2% | 55.0% | 53.8% |
| Gustav Forsling | 48.6% | 59.1% | 54.4% |
55.7% together, 55.9% for him apart and 52.3% for Bennett apart. Bennett was worse away from him while his own share held — the pairing was doing more for Bennett than for him.
Expected-goal share while both were on the ice, and for each man in the minutes he played without the other. Apart is the pair subtracted from his own totals. It does not settle who was carrying whom — apart from each other, both were still playing with somebody — but it does say whether the share travelled when the pairing broke up.
