A 48.8 per cent chance share, with on-ice goals of 34-31 against an expected 45.83-48.15. His line scored twelve fewer than the chances said and conceded seventeen fewer, so it came out ahead at five-on-five and he finished minus-17. The gap is shorthanded time and empty nets, and it describes his usage rather than his play.
The Finesse Game
42 per cent of his shots came from inside 20 feet at a median of 24, and at 34 that has become the whole approach: get to the space between the circles and shoot the moment it opens.
The release is the skill and it has not thinned — 14.2 per cent on 169 attempts is a good year at any age. He does not beat a defenceman one-on-one any more and he does not need to, because he arrives at the right place before the puck does.
The Physical Game
192 pounds and honest in traffic without being difficult to move. He goes to the net front and gets pushed out of it by bigger defencemen.
20 penalty minutes in a full season at eighteen minutes a night is a low number and it fits a player whose game has never depended on the physical exchange.
