Last Season
Two goals and four points in 38 games with a minus-18 — by a distance the worst mark on the roster and one of the worst in the league among players with that little ice time — on under fourteen minutes a night.
The Finesse Game
Almost none. Twelve goals in 345 career games, and a first pass that is safe when it works and hurried when it does not. He does not carry the puck out and does not join the rush.
Twenty-six shots in thirty-eight games is a negligible offensive contribution.
The Physical Game
Six-four and 207, and the size is what has kept him employed. He is willing in front of his own net and along the wall without being punishing, and he blocks shots.
The skating is the problem. He is a step behind against quick forwards and cannot recover once beaten, which is what a minus-18 in a third-pairing role looks like.
The Intangibles
The seventh pick in 2014, which has followed him through five organisations and a career that has never taken hold anywhere. That is a hard thing to carry.
At thirty, the honest read is that he is organisational depth who dresses when injuries demand it. The number from last season makes even that difficult.
