This Season So Far

The 2025-26 season has not started. The empty row above is his, and both it and this paragraph fill in on their own from the morning after he first plays: what he has done, what it is worth against his own last season, and the run he is on when the two disagree.

Last Season

3 goals and 2 assists in 21 games for 5 points, minus-5, on 13:02 a night between Toronto and Boston.

3 goals on 24 shots is 12.5 per cent in a sample that means nothing. What the 21 games showed is a 21-year-old who could be played 13 minutes a night without the shift being a liability, which at this age is the whole test.

The Finesse Game

A responsible, structured centre rather than a creator. The puck moves quickly and simply, the reads on the breakout are already good, and there is no evidence of the young player’s habit of holding it one beat too long.

The offence is the open question. He was a point-per-game junior and the NHL translation has not started; the shot is ordinary and the hands are good rather than dangerous. A projection of a third-line centre is safe and a second-line one is not yet earned.

The Physical Game

6-2 and 204, and he plays a heavy, honest game already. He wins pucks below the goal line, finishes checks, and takes a defensive-zone draw.

2 penalty minutes in 21 games. Nothing careless, and the frame will carry more.

The Intangibles

A second-round pick, a world-junior captain, and the return in a deadline trade for a defenceman Boston had drafted and developed. That is a substantial thing to be asked to be worth.

On a club with Lindholm at 30 and Zacha at 28 and no centre depth behind them, he arrives at exactly the right time. The realistic timeline is two more seasons.
