The Finesse Game

The shot is the tool and it is a good one — a heavy, accurate release that already scores on NHL goaltenders. A hundred and thirty-nine unblocked attempts, thirteen goals, median 26 feet with 31 per cent from inside twenty.

Five of his twelve goals came on the power play, which for a twenty-one-year-old says the club already trusts the shot in the one place it can be set up.

Nine assists in 71 games is thin and it is the part that has to come.

The Physical Game

Six foot one, 207, and solidly built for the age. Twenty-six penalty minutes.

He is willing on the wall and does not yet win there consistently. The skating is the limitation and was the knock on him at the draft.

The Intangibles

Forty-eight point three per cent of the expected goals, 38th percentile, and 47.6 per cent of the shot attempts, 31st, across 876 minutes, with the goals 42-34 in his favour.

That is a respectable underlying season for a first-year player given fourteen minutes a night.

Four points in his last ten. He is 21, the tenth pick in 2023, and the third of three young forwards — with Snuggerud and Neighbours — that this club is actually building around.
