The Finesse Game
Genuine skill and a long history of it being intermittent. He carries the puck into the zone with speed, makes a play at the blue line rather than dumping it, and the hands work in traffic.
27 assists in 79 games is the useful half. The shot has always been better than the conversion rate suggests and he does not shoot enough — 115 attempts in a full season is low for a top-nine winger.
The Physical Game
6-3 and 203, and he does not use it at all. He avoids the wall, does not forecheck, and gives up possession rather than absorbing contact.
12 penalty minutes over 79 games. He is nowhere near anything. The durability had been the concern before last season and it held up.

Chicago bought him because a club that finished last in the league in creating chances needs somebody who can make a play. That is the right idea, and at 30 with this record the honest projection is 40 points and no defence.
