The Finesse Game
The skill that made him the third pick is still visible in flashes. He is 6-4 with real hands, he protects the puck well, and he can make a play off the wall that most big centres cannot. When he has been healthy and settled he has looked like a genuine second-line centre.
The problem is that the flashes are all there has been. 47 shots in 37 games, a point every 2 and a half games, and no sustained stretch since he arrived. Whether that is the injuries or the player is now impossible to separate.
The skating was never quick and has not improved.
The Physical Game
