Last Season

Six goals and 18 points in 65 games, minus-12, on under eleven minutes a night. The minus-12 is the worst on a team where almost everyone was strongly positive, which is the number that stands out.

The Finesse Game

The speed is the asset and always has been. He is quick through the neutral zone and can carry a puck into the zone, which is more than most fourth-liners offer.

Sixty-five shots in sixty-five games is a modest rate, and sixty-five goals in 477 career games is the honest measure — he creates chances and does not finish many.

The Physical Game

Five-ten and 183, and he plays a light game. He does not win pucks, avoids the interior, and is easily removed along the wall.

The Intangibles

Six organisations and a career of being useful enough to sign and replaceable enough to move. There is no shame in that and it is what he is.

At thirty-two, on a deep team, the minus-12 in a sheltered role is difficult to defend. He is the forward who comes out of the lineup when everyone is healthy.
