Last Season

Eight goals and nine assists in 67 games — 17 points, plus-five, at 17:48 a night with 40 penalty minutes.

The Finesse Game

A mobile puck-mover who is still learning what to do with it. Seventy-two unblocked attempts from a median of 49 feet, 75 per cent from beyond forty, and eight goals — an unusually high conversion for a point shot, and almost certainly not a repeatable one.

Nine assists in 67 games is thin for a defenceman playing eighteen minutes. Fifty-one points in 176 career games.

The Physical Game

Six foot even, 195, and average. Forty penalty minutes in 67 games is a fair rate.

He is not a punishing defender and does not need to be on a pair that is sheltered relative to Larsson’s; the skating covers the gaps well enough.

The Intangibles

Forty-eight point two per cent of the expected goals, 38th percentile, against only 45.3 per cent of the shot attempts, 13th, across 1,075 minutes.

The goals came out 52 for and 44 against — the only positive margin of any Seattle defenceman, and it sits on chances of 40.4 to 43.4. Some of that is goaltending and some of it is eight goals from seventy-two shots.

Three points in his last ten. He is 24, a thirty-fifth overall pick, and the third-best defenceman on this roster already. The gap between his shot-attempt share and his chance share says he is on the ice for fewer shots but better ones, which is the more forgivable of the two problems.
