Thirty-two appearances, 13-12-4, a 2.65 goals-against average and a .9088 save percentage. His career figure across 402 games is .9081.
Over his last ten appearances, .885 on 270 shots.
The Physical Game
Six foot one, 188, and small by modern standards, which is why the game has always been positional for him. He plays deep, reads the release, and relies on being in the right place rather than on getting there quickly.
At 34 the reactions have gone a little and the positioning has not.
The Mental Game
This is the interesting part. He signed a long contract as Seattle’s first franchise goaltender, played badly enough for long enough that the city gave up on him entirely, and was in the minors two seasons ago.
He came back and posted the best save percentage of any Seattle goaltender last season.
The Intangibles
A .9088 against Daccord’s .8959, and a 2.65 goals-against average against a 3.03, behind the same defence. That is a substantial gap and it ran the whole season, not a hot fortnight.
Seattle’s goaltending finished sixteen and a half goals better than the chances it faced, fifth-best in the league, and the better half of it came from the man who was supposed to be finished.
He is 34, a fourth-round pick, and 179 career wins. Whatever the depth chart says in October, the numbers from last season do not support it.
