The Finesse Game
The skating is elite and it is the whole reason he was a first-round pick — genuinely one of the faster forwards in the league, and he uses it to forecheck and to recover rather than to carry.
The scoring has not arrived. Ninety-six unblocked attempts, six goals, median distance 29 feet with 35 per cent inside twenty. Fourteen assists in 51 games is the encouraging half.
The Physical Game
Five foot eleven, 188, and slight. Nineteen penalty minutes. He is not winning pucks by force and at this weight he is not going to; the speed has to do all of it.
The Intangibles
Here is the one number on this roster worth pausing over. Chicago’s skaters last season posted expected-goal shares in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth percentiles. Moore posted 47.6 per cent — 33rd percentile, in 576 minutes.
That is still below average. On this team it is by some distance the best mark of any forward, and it was produced by a 21-year-old in a bottom-six role.
Six points in his last ten. He is the nineteenth pick in 2023 and, on the evidence of one season, the Chicago forward least responsible for what happened.
